If you use a combination of words for months and numbers for days and
years you can enter anything: 1 Jun, Jun 1, June 1 etc will all be
correctly interpreted. It is only when you use all numeric input where
there can be confusion between which is the day and which is the month
that your input pattern has to match the settings you have in Windows.
Your Windows is set to interpret 1 6 1900 as Month Day Year so the 1 is
Jan and the 6 is the day. 23 6 1900 will be correctly set as 23 Jun
because there is no possible month number 23 (Any number above 12 in the
day or month will become a day). In 7.5 and earlier you could specify
your numeric input form but there was the same provision that the form
you chose had to match your Windows date setting. We in support got
trouble reports from users who had set their input to a format which was
different from their Windows setting and had problems with numeric
dates. In 8.0 we decided since Legacy can read your Windows date format
setting we will just do that.
