Hi Alan, Legacy v8 414 converts jan-mar 1856 to Jan-Mar 1856. Legacy does recognize this as a date range. So it appears that date range functionality is still there. V8 no longer converts 1-3 1856 to Jan-Mar 1856 but, annoyingly, treats it as a specific date - either 1 Mar 1856 or Jan 3 1856 now dependant on your computer settings. They do a great job on 'cleaning up' many ways the dates are entered.
I'm told v8 was five years in the making. It would seem that that the five years of bug/error fixes (and enhancements) in v7 did not all make their way to v8. I want to see the new release to be an improved version of the old one - and don't change what I've grown accustomed to! Legacy is doing some rapid catch-up to fix some of these. At least Legacy responds, though not always in my favor! I wonder why Legacy removed this date range functionality when Upgrading to version 8? I have had ongoing discussions with Legacy with the Quarter dates and suggested enhancements. So far, the only 'productive' thing to happen is the recognition that entering Jan-Feb-Mar 1856 is simply deleted with no warning, so that has been entered for correction. I should be able to put anything I want in that box. When I convert a Legacy file to a gedcom using Mar Q 1856 I get two dates: DATE Bet 1 Jan 1856 and 31 Mar 1856 _QDATE Mar Q 1856 While Jan-Mar 1856 is Jan-Mar 1856 in the gedcom. My thoughts: Jan-Mar 1856 is a date range - Legacy recognizes this. jan-jun 1856 = Jan-Jun 1856 also a date range Jan-Feb-Mar 1856 is widely accepted as a Quarter date - but not by Legacy Legacy conversions 3 1856 = Mar 1856 3 Q 1856 = 3 1856 (note double space) Mar Q 1856 = Mar Q 1856 mar q 1856 = Mar Q 1856 1-3 1856 = 1 Mar 1856 or Jan 3 1856 depending on your date settings 1.3 1856 = 1 Mar 1856 or Jan 3 1856 depending on your date settings 1,3 1856 = 1 Mar 1856 or Jan 3 1856 depending on your date settings Jan-Mar 1856 = Jan-Mar 1856 Jan-Feb-Mar 1856 = (data is deleted) - being corrected but not converted to Mar Q 1856 Bob A -----Original Message----- From: Alan Pereira [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, March 17, 2014 4:45 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [LegacyUG] Date Range for Quarters In Legacy 7.5 I used to enter the range of Jan-Mar 1856 by typing 1-3 1856. This does not work the same in L8 as it converts the 1-3 into 1 Mar (UK Date). I do not like entering the date as Mar Q 1856 as this gets translated in GEDCOM to "From Jan to Mar" and I end up with a mixture of date ranges effectively meaning the same thing. Can the L7.5 date range input be reinstated?
