Hello all who have responded to my plea for help

To Margaret: your suggestion to go the marriage list-> edit marriages ->
wording options did work, but only for each particular marriage: the wife was
at "0/O" & when changed to "wife" the change appeared on the family view screen
but only for that one marriage. All the other marriages still have "0/O"
rather than wife. When I tried that (edit marriage even though he was never
married) for a male child who died young & whose pane said "wife" & I changed
the wording options to "male", the change was not made & the word remained
"wife"

To Brian/Support: I wasn't seeing a person's name in the upper left corner of
the individual's screen. For the recently added persons, the correct gender
was selected, and can't be altered as it is "grayed out. For all the other
individuals (at least all I checked on) the gender button is not only correct
but is not "grayed out" I'm not trying to enter a same sex marriage. These
are people back in the 1700's.

Going back to the starting family and tracing out each ancestor line for all
the previously entered families, "husband" appears in the upper left of the
male or husband pane & "0" or "O" in the upper left of the female or right hand
pane in each case in which this is a married couple

In the case of a single male, such as a male child who died young, the upper
left pane has the word "wife" (the male gender "button" is clicked on) and the
upper right hand pane is "married".

In the case of a single female child, the upper left pane is also "wife" and
the upper right pane is also "married"

In other words, for any single person, rather than "male" on the left or
"female" on the right, "wife" appears in the upper left of the left pane and
"married" appears in the upper left of the right pane.

When I go the recently added husband & wife, the situation changes & "wife"
appears in the left hand or husband's pane & "married" appears in the female or
wife's pane.

Worse, the same problem has appeared in my other family files which were not
open. ("0" or "O") where "wife should appear.

In my non-techy opinion, something has happened to the basic Legacy software
which controls all family files on my PC. The question is: what do I do now?

I hope I've been able to explain this well enough to have someone tell me what
happed & why & how to correct it.

Norma

If you see a person's name in the Husb area of the family view that is because
Legacy thinks the person is Male. When you add a spouse to a male the person is
going to be classed as female (Legacy does not support same-gender
relationships). To correct gender errors for husbands and wives go to Edit >
Swap Husband and Wife to correct their genders and swap their names so they
appear in the correct section of the Family View.

Try fixing the gender of the people in those three families then see if your
display works correctly.
