In 7.5/278, I have a person in Family View with no father. I click on the empty father box and the phantom parents (no RINs assigned) move down making the original person one of their children. This allows me to add a sibling to the original person without necessarily knowing who the parents were. With the same setup, a right-click on the empty father box produces the Add dialog where I can select to add either a new person link an existing person as the father. If this is repeated to add a mother, then the mother is wedded to the new father. Which is what you want.
