Robert, You might want to check out a third party software called LTools that helps to manipulate the ms Access database specifically for Legacy.
Tho' in your case you might have to get a copy of Leg ver 7.5 and load the gedcom into that first as I dont think the LTools managed Legacy 8 shared events. But for the under 20 price still is the best investment i ever made to help manage the Legacy data.
