I don't see what the big deal is anyway. I would never click a link unless I thought it was trustworthy. Not even from users here on the list. That's good practice, period.
In the end, mailing lists are magnets for spammers. You could require that the first so many messages go through a moderator, but you'll still have hacked accounts and that as they say, is that.
