No, I only wrote that Legacy’s import ‘perceived’ that the surnames were in all
caps, not that the GEDCOM file contained all cap surnames. The same GEDCOM file
(from FTM 2014) did not result in a similar response from the other software I
am evaluating (Family Historian 5.11, Heredis 2014 v 14.1, RootsMagic 6.3.3) or
when I imported the file to Genbox 3.7.1.

As for your second paragraph, the source description is in the Comments field
for each source (391 sources) in FTM 2014. That information from the sources in
FTM 2014 are imported into the same type of field (Comments tab for a source)
by Legacy. Again, it is only Legacy that has responded to that GEDCOM imported
information by marking those source comments to be included in the
source/citation text.

Since Ancestry just released this morning an SP4 patch to FTM 2014 I will be
creating a new separate GEDCOM output to try importing into Legacy. What I find
out I will pass along to you through the support ticket you created.

Best,

Denise Moss-Fritch

Denise,

I just imported a gedcom that had all caps and I didn’t get any error message.

I also tested your second issue. I was able to reproduce this but I am not sure
it is a bug. I need to do some additional testing but I am guessing that if
there is any information in the text/comments field it is triggering that this
information be included on reports. I will get back to you on this one. I am
going to send you a message via our ticketing system so that we can get this
logged in.

Michele,

Ah ha! So the set living flag to No is a known import bug for GEDCOMs? (I know
that I am definitely not a ‘ghost writer’.) Thank you for that information.

Legacy is one of four genealogy software (two US, one UK, and one French) I am
looking at to move my data to from FTM 2014. Eventually I’ll move my data to
one of the four software I am evaluating, or just go back to Genbox (used
during what spare time I had from late 2002 to early 2013) as I have a very
high confidence in that software despite the lack of development since 2007.

So Michele, in addition to the living flag set to No during the GEDCOM import,
I also found (in Legacy only, not in the other three software imports of the
same GEDCOM) the following:

* ‘Include on reports’ checked on for all sources

* An error notice that all surnames are all caps

By chance are these two also known import bugs during a GEDCOM import? Thanks.

Russ,

By chance was your file from a gedcom import? There was a known problem with
Legacy changing living people to deceased when importing gedcoms. That has
been fixed and the fix is scheduled for the next update. The fix will not
change your living people back to living. If you did get this from a gedcom
import, and you still have the original gedcom, I can import it for you using
the new update now and then send you the file. If so, send me an email to
[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> and put
attn.: Michele. I will give you instructions on how to get the file to me.
