Nancy,

If you link to a photo outside of the Media folder you will be a popup box
asking you want you want to do. You have the option to copy the photo to the
Media folder and then Legacy will link to that photo (not the original one) or
you can tell Legacy to leave the file where it is and link to it there.
Whatever option you choose, you can tell Legacy to remember your choice for the
rest of the current session.

If the photo is already in the Media folder (even if it is in a subfolder) you
won’t get this message.

Are you saying that once I link a photo to Legacy a copy will automatically be
put in the Legacy Media Folder?

The default location for your media files is Documents\Legacy Family
Tree\Media. You don’t have to put your files there if you don’t want to but
that is where the default is set up. You can have subfolders inside this
folder if you like (I do).

The one reason someone might want to put their pictures directly on the C:
drive in a dedicated folder is if they have a deep subfolder structure. This
will cut out several levels.

What you don’t want is your media files scattered all over your hard drive.

It says there is a legacy program file and a legacy media file. Do I find that
media file somehow and put all my pictures in there? Before I start linking
them to my program I want to get them in the best place.

You can't store them in legacy. It only stores the links. You can create a cd
to share with the images and that could be viewed by others. They would need
to install legacy to see everything but they can install the free version.
Others will probably give you more details or you can check help files :-). It
would take up too much space and slow the program down significantly if legacy
embedded all the photos :-(. I wish it could so it too.

I want my pictures to be actually stored in Legacy and not just linked. Do
I use media center or media gallery?
