How many you keep is really a matter of choice (and how paranoid you are!) but I was brought up to believe that keeping the latest 3 was sufficient. What is almost more important than "how many" is "where". If your laptop is also your main working machine where your current family file is, your backups are the bare minimum of security. The next-to-minimum level would be to have them on a different computer or storage device within your home. For real security you should regularly take copies of your latest backups to some safe place outside your home - maybe a relative or friend's house or your place of work. God forbid you should suffer a house fire or major burglary, but if the worst should happen it might marginally less traumatic if you can restore everything (everything, not just family history) that was on your computer. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://support.legacyfamilytree.com Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
