Cathy, sorry, I’m lost. What do you mean by “section number?” The section in
EE? Where is the “what kind of source do I want” field?

Thanks,

Barton

Hi Barton,

There's a virtually hidden feature for finding the template corresponding to EE.

You can type the section number into the "What kind of source do you want to
cite" field.

I would like to record my homestead land entry files as illustrated in
EE. I went to the Source Template Index and found Homestead Files >
Land and Property Records > Homestead Files > Basic Format but it
doesn’t seem to gibe with the format on EE. I thought this would be
the appropriate template since I obtained hard copies from NARA
directly. I also looked at templates under BLM, most of which were
DVD/CD-ROM options. I thought Legacy created most of its templates
based on EE’s directives and so am wondering if there is some other
template I should be using.
EE references “Record Group 49” in her example for citing a whole
(Homestead) file but a record group is nowhere referenced in the
paperwork I received. And in the receipt NARA sent there was
handwritten notation in the box “File Designation” “Bx. 799,” and EE
does not include such a field in her example, as follows:

Robert Vandament (Chase County) homestead file, final certificate no.
328, Lincoln, Nebraska, Land Office; Land Entry Papers, 1800-1908;
Records of the Bureau of Land Management, Record Group 49, National
Archives, Washington, DC.

I wonder why EE doesn’t include the Box Number? I would think that’s
important if they sent me it to me. Most importantly, though, which
template follows EE’s format for a land entry file?

Thanks,

Barton
