Hi Cathy, so are you choosing the same template I did (Section 11.23 ... Land and Property records > Homestead files > Basic format)? Is the Repository line not blank, and when you click on the arrow, there are no options? I clicked on the "+" to add NARA, and I freeze. But that's not happening to you? What would the setting difference be that you referred to?
I'll await submitting a bug report in case we're not on the same page here and you're doing something different than what I'm doing. I appreciate your help. Re the Repository, you can add any repository from the Source Info tab in that template (Click the plus sign at the end of the Repository line) or the Repository Tab (Click Add). If NARA is already amongst your repositories, you can, of course, select. I'm not getting a freeze - which doesn't mean you aren't - just that we may have different settings somewhere. Some templates have the repository "hard-wired" as there is only one archive for the information - eg US Census - but other templates are more general and can be used for sources from different repositories - eg Land Sources from another country. Cathy Barton Lewis wrote: Hi Cathy, okay, thanks. There is a problem with the template (Section 11.23, homestead files, basic format). When I click on repository, there are no options (NARA should be listed). When I try to add NARA myself, the screen freezes and I am forced to shut down Legacy. This was an issue with another source template some time ago. LUG support, can this be fixed please? I want to add these important sources to my database! The field is on the screen where you choose a Source Template - the top field which can be used to search the templates. C Barton Lewis wrote: Cathy, sorry, I’m lost. What do you mean by “section number? The section in EE? Where is the “what kind of source do I want field? You can type the section number into the "What kind of source do you want to cite" field. Cathy Barton Lewis wrote: I would like to record my ho mestead land entry files as illustrated in EE. I went to the Source Template Index and found Homestead Files > Land and Property Records > Homestead Files > Basic Format but it doesn’t seem to gibe with the format on EE. I thought this would be the appropriate template since I obtained hard copies from NARA directly. I also looked at templates under BLM, most of which were DVD/CD-ROM options. I thought Legacy created most of its templates based on EE’s directives and so am wondering if there is some other template I should be using.* EE references “Record Group 49â€ in her example for citing a whole &nb sp; (Homestead) file but a reco rd group is nowhere referenced in the paperwork I received. And in the receipt NARA sent there was handwritten notation in the box “File Designationâ€ “Bx. 799,â€ and EE does not include such a field in her example, as follows: Robert Vandament (Chase County) homestead file, final certificate no. 328, Lincoln, Nebraska, Land Office; Land Entry Papers, 1800-1908; Records of the Bureau of Land Management, Record Group 49, National Archives, Washington, DC. I wonder why EE doesn’t include the Box Number? I would think that’s important if they sent me it to me. Most importa ntly, though, which template follows EE’s format for a land entry file? &nbs p; Thanks, Barton Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://support.legacyfamilytree.com Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
