It seems to me that personal preference is determined somewhat by the desired Report results.  As a test, enter Census Event as desired or in any of the ways offered in this exchange, then run all the different reports selecting different report options - which can make your head swim, then decide what gives you the 'best' desired results.   Keeping in mind you can always take a report into an editing program and edit out or in as desired.
One rule I have is - if the birth-date of a person has a variation of 2 years or less over the course of 3 or more Census.  I only use the earliest Census (if no other birth source has yet been found) for the birth-date.  If a later census offers a birth-date of 3 or more years, I will enter an Alt. Birth with that Census as a Source.  Same with name variations, if a person is William in the earliest census and Bill in a later one, etc.
I often list neighbors on either side of the family in Text/Comments of the Source Detail (where I also enter the entire family for all the categories of that particular Census) - have made some wonderful discoveries by doing that.  Also I always Check the Box 'Add this Text to the Source Citations on Reports'.  This does cause some redundancy, but, I rather have it than not.

As an aside, I'm sorry for the added characters in my e-mail text - Mozilla Thurderbird for some unknown reason just adds them once the email is sent.

So in reading your responses, I'm understanding that you do NOT think it is
a problem to duplicate the information in the source and the event for a
particular census? That is my issue. I like the census event and I like
my source to be clear in the details about where I got the information.
It's just that they are duplicated information.
I have Census Events and Censuses as Sources but there is not a lot of
duplication.

I put all the information from the Census about each Individual in the
Description field and the Residence in the Location field. (Some people
don't like to do this.) I use the Notes to list all the other members
of the household and sometimes extra information such as "John's parents
were living next door."

The Source includes the Census reference, the date, the Civil Parish &
County and details of the website where I viewed the Census and I attach
a copy of the image, but I do not repeat all of the information entered
in the Event.

(If I was producing a Report which included Census Events for 2 or more
people in the same household I would not repeat the Event Notes for
everyone, just include them for the Head of Household or other person as
appropriate.)
