Confirmed. Thus the nested "<<" makes no difference in what it removes. For example, if one were to add this phrase to any notes, <<This is text that I want to keep>>, and then hit the Strip HTML button, it would ALL be erased. In other words, it seems as if it's not really looking for HTML codes but merely the "less than" sign and the "greater than" sign as flags, and then assumes it must all be HTML so everything goes into the bit bucket. Along similar lines, I remember several months back when I got fancy with my treatment for Unknown names and entered them as <Unknown>. You cannot believe the HTML mess I got when Gedcoms were uploaded to Ancestry's web pages. Your conjecture that the characters might be alt0171 and alt0187 might be possible but I can't see how they can be confused because they are so much smaller. Here is the ASCII Code for such printable characters: ASCII code 174 = « ( Angle quotes, guillemets, right-pointing quotation mark ) ASCII code 175 = » ( Guillemets, angle quotes, left-pointing quotation marks ) The double "smaller than/greater than" characters would look like << and >>. Close but no cigar. But I do like your other suggestion to do a "Search and Replace" to permanently get rid of the offending characters whether they be RTF formatting codes or printable ASCII characters. Hopefully the OP can utilize one or more of these methods and achieve some joy. Also the Strip HTML removes text between single arrows <text to be removed> but I see it works when there are nested << and >> as well, it looks like it is seeing the outer < and > and removing everything between.
