Brian,
I had been getting round to asking if you could sort a Search result by given names. I didn't have much hope you could do it. But you instructions to sort a Name List work just the same way for a Search list. I need a given name sort far more often that a surname sort.
Thank you. thank you. thank you.
Terry

Go to View > Name list
Click on the RIN, Given name or Surname label to sort the list by that field.
Click Print
Select the data you want by clicking to put check marks on the data you want included. The customize button will let you choose additional information and you can select up to 3 rows of data (in the csv file you create these will all be one line not three).
Click the circle in front of the csv file option
Instead of Print the upper right button will now say Create
With the fields selected click the create button
A file window will open, note where the file will be stored or change to a folder you will remember.
Type a file name into the file name box
Click Save
Legacy will output a text file with the data separated by commas. Each name will be on a single line. This file can be imported into almost any spreadsheet program including Excel.

I have never ask a question first, only replied.

I have tried to figure out how to make a text list of names. I have 8
thousand plus. I don't wish to have to type all of them into a list. I
have accomplished making a list but every other line is
grayed/shadowed. That does not allow me to cut and paste the names to
an xcel file. Any thoughts?
