There are mailing lists and message boards to cover any possible subject on ROOTSWEB. Also forums like ROOTSCHAT with lots of categories of subject.
I don’t know where you are but soc.genealogy.britain is still quite active on USENET and sure there are similar for other areas as well more general ones. Many local Family History Societies have mailing lists (or use a ROOTSWEB one for their area) if it is their own members’ only list then they can be a useful place to get help on a range of subjects.
