Unlike Win7, Windows10 includes a built-in PDF reader using the Edge browser which it sets as the default PDF viewer. If your Win7 system was automatically upgraded to Win10 in the dark of the night by Microsoft, usually such applications such as other PDF viewers are still available for your use in Win10. Once in a great while, either the Win10 upgrade fails for a particular program or else that particular viewer may not have been compatible with Win10. I suspect that the old one you used to use on your Win7 machine is still there, but Microsoft is trying to force you to use Edge instead. You may have to hunt for it in the alphabetized list of “All Apps” after clicking on the Start window thingie in the lower left of Windows.
Just google “PDF Viewers in Win10” and you’ll get a list of multiple programs that you can download and install to view PDF files. The most commonly used viewer is Adobe Reader which is free. Just go to “adobe.com” and click on any link that says “Get Adobe Reader”. I would caution you to not get click happy while on the Adobe web site because by default Adobe will include the Google Chrome browser, make it your default browser, and add the Google Toolbar to your browser unless you un-check those boxes. You may then wish to visit the Legacy “Customization Settings – Launch” and check to see what if anything you have entered for any of the programs that Legacy will use to view various types of file formats. These programs include web browsers, word processors, text editors, and PDF viewers. Most users leave these blank which means Legacy will use whatever program Windows has been told is the default program for that file type. So if Edge is the default browser and PDF reader for your computer , then this is why you are seeing Edge to view the PDF files. If you installed Adobe Reader or any other PDF viewer AND then tell Windows to use that program by default, Legacy would then open Adobe Reader to view your report. This is also where you can tell Legacy to use Firefox or Chrome or Internet Explorer to view your HTML formatted reports while you may wise to keep using Edge as your default browser (don’t know why anybody would actually do that….). While in this customization section, just remember that DEFAULT means for Legacy to use whatever Windows has been told is the default. You need only enter something if you want for Legacy to use something different. This is so confusing to this old brain of mine. What happened to the one in Legacy that I used on my Windows 7 machine? Or was that controlled by Microsoft also? I don't think I have anything else on my PC to change it to. I will have to find someone to help me do all this. I am not good at all this kind of computer stuff. Thank you for all your help. However, you can change that default either when installing a different Acrobat application (I use Acrobat Pro) or later. Occasionally when adding a Win 10 patch I have had that pdf default changed. If you have an application you use as your default pdf software and that default has changed, go to System > Default apps > Choose default apps by file type. Find the listing for pdf and click on the app already selected to display a Choose an app list and select your preferred pdf software. If so, the Win 10 version of Internet Explorer is called 'Edge', symbolized by and "E" and has an imbedded pdf reader. And if you do not have another pdf reader installed, it becomes the default, thus printing your pdf document. Martha In Los Osos, CA
