When I use Google Maps, it zooms to the island. I can make out the buildings and boats quite easily.

When I use Bing maps ( http://www.bing.com/maps/ which ends up "resolving" to https://www.bing.com/mapspreview), it zooms way out to show most of the western hemisphere and part of Europe/Africa. BUT it DOES put a BIG dot on the island, it just does not zoom. (I tried putting in PARIS - that DOES zoom into the city, so zoom is working). Not sure why Bengtskär only puts a DOT but does not zoom in . . . but at least it identifies it. It also brings up a "side bar" talking about the island. When I switch to AERIAL view and zoom in, the big dot IS on the island (but the island is pretty blurry). Obviously Bing still has some updates to make on their detailed aerial photos and on their data!

I will give one example (I have hundreds). Try to Google for “Bengtskär” It is such a well-known place that no country or ´county is needed

Take the first hit and read the Wikipedia (there is also an English version) and take also a look at the map There is now a hotel in the lighthouse an my nice was married in the chapel there.

My ancestors lived there and fighhted during the Continuation War (WW2) in 1941

Try to go to the same location in Bing: ONLY WATER!

Thanks Mary, it will make it easier!

I have not used Google Earth for a long time; instead I have used
Google Maps as gives the coordinates in decimal degrees

But it in any case a shame that you have to go that way!

If you pin the location on Google Earth, the pin shows the
coordinates as DDMMSS.xxx, you just have to omit the symbols.

I do not intend to navigate to the islands; they are
perhaps one kilometre or less across and many miles from
            the nearest road.

But peoples / ancestors have lived there, maybe a
lighthouse keeper or a pilot or a fisherman, all with
large families, and Google map is finding the islands but
            Bing not.

To make matters worse uses Legacy an unusual system for
            coordinates:

Both Bing and Google specifies coordinates in decimal
degrees but Legacy expect them in the form DDDMMSS.xxx.

Yes, there is a calculator, but it can only be reached in
the same process, when you use it is Add / Edit place locked.

I have three monitors, one 24“ and two 19" and have
downloaded an app " GPS Coordinator Converter" from
Windows Store and have this app and some other stuff on
            one screen,

Windows Phone maps are much good.. also "HereMaps" &
"HereDrive" Apps on windows for navigation..

I agree that Here mapping as used on Windows Phones
is excellent, but I think Microsoft (which has its
own mapping = Bing Maps) has discontinued its
arrangement for the newer Windows Mobile 10 operating
system on their phones, and Here has other ventures
(car navigation for a group of manufacturers in
Europe?). The changes Nokia to Microsoft seem to have
                worked out like that.

(Here mapping is also available from any web browser –
and it is quite good even in Australia.)

I’m not sure what the developer licensing costs for
the Google or the Here APIs are like – changing
Legacy’s mapping from Bing to Google or Here is a cost
and an effort that may be too much.

All of this is off-topic I guess.

This action is required because of the DMARC
Reject/Quarantine Policy imposed by some email
providers. Users who want to send messages without
conversion to attachments should use a different email
                address for their subscription.

Known providers for free email accounts whose emails
do not require this conversion include gmail.com
                <http://gmail.com> and hotmail.com
<http://hotmail.com>. Many other email providers will
also work but you will have to give them a try.
