Do the other families have Windows computers? If so, you can send them the free version of Legacy and a Legacy backup file - that way everything will be in place at their end. In fact, I think Legacy has a "create CD" option that pretty much does this. You could probably use either a CD or a USB key??? I think it includes a link to Legacy download site so they get the most current version - so if they do not have internet access you may need to manually copy the Legacy install to the CD??? (Its been a LONG time since I've messed with this, so I could be wrong.)

And, no, you do not need to send them your entire Legacy file. You can use tags and such to create a separate Legacy file with just the folks they want to see, and then use that separate Legacy file to create the CD/USB.

I recently needed to send information about a few families as a small GEDCOM. While I am relatively new to Legacy, I had no problem creating the small GEDCOM - except for graphics information. When the GEDCOM was imported (to a couple different genealogical applications) the following was found:

1. Internet Website addresses (Media Gallery > Add Media > Internet Website) is used to identify from what repository / source database informtion (used in a citation) was found. Those ulr addresses, shown in the GEDCOM on different lines as an OBJE, FORM URL, _TYPE URL with the address betweend those elements, are being imported as though there were graphical images. Possibly the _TYPE URL, which if I am not mistaken is a customized Legacy GEDCOM tag, is the confusing element.

2. Actual graphic images (census, certificates, etc) are shown in Legacy as a master graphic item, with multiple links when used in several locations, were apparently being recorded in the GEDCOM as separate, individual graphics, not several links to one graphic. Meaning the imported GEDCOM shows multiple copies of the same graphic image after import to the other genealogical application.

So, what did I miss when creating the GEDCOM file in Legacy? Is there some option I missed that would perhaps turn off the urls being added to the GEDCOM? What about the multiple references of images, as though different graphics?
