I am not sure how to help you with this but I do want to point out that there are two sentence definitions when you are working with shared events. The master Event sentence is used for the owner or principal person of the event but when the event is shared there are sentence definitions for the shared event based on the role of the participants.

If you look at each level of the event there are special codes used in the shared event for the principal person and the sharer of the event. Your missing name problem may result from an incorrect code in the master event or in the shared sentences for the role you assigned to those who share the letter.

Use the on screen help buttons when working with the event sentences to help sort out which name format you need in each level.

I have been trying to sort out the Shared Event business because I would
like to have my "Letter" events produce something like

He sent "a big letter with a lot of stuff" to "A. Recipient" "on 25
Apr 1851" from "A Place in Ireland"

I actually have such letters, and they are important to understanding the
family, so this is a really interesting situation. I also have letters from
living or recently dead people that are of interest in constructing the
family history.

My Letter event has a sentence corresponding to the above example like this:

[HeShe] sent [-Desc] to [Person] [onDate] from [Place]

I have two immediate issues:

1) Looks like this:

He sent a big letter with a lot of stuff to on 25 Apr 1851 from A
Place in Ireland.

That is, the field [Person] is null for the event, until I go to A. Person's
data and open the shared event. The it all works.

2) The definition of [Person] gets stuck. I have performed the following
test, using an event Test, which is currently not shared. This event has the
following sentence:

        [EventName]: [Desc], [Person] [onDate], [inPlace].

If it is not shared, and I haven't exercised the shared stuff, the output
reads:

A big letter with a lot of stuff to on 25 Apr 1851 from A Place in
Ireland.

If, however, I have opened the magic shared event, I get:

A big letter with a lot of stuff to A. Person on 25 Apr 1851 from A
Place in Ireland.

Worse yet, if I share the Event with someone else, say, B. Person, I get the
same result. That is, the B. Person share is ignored. If I go to B. Person
and open the shared event, B. Person replaces A. Person.
