Wendy, Outlook on a laptop uses filters quite nicely and redirects as you suggest into sub folders (although with today's more powerful search mechanism, subfolders or directories filters and rules are becoming archaic.) However Outlook on an iPhone doesn't redirect using filters as easily, so separate email addresses work better. And of course, using an iPhone, you don't have to remember to look at the other account because all accounts are shown in Mail.
