Hello Henk

I just want to applaud your decision to put your family tree up on the
internet, I did so 6 yrs ago and it has been successful beyond my wildest
dreams.

For example I had 3,036,060 hits last year, 623,068 visitors opened
2,027,488 pages, 83,420 persons returned two or more times.

The family tree has trebled in size from family contacts and contributions
see the Contributors page on the Home Page, and I have a mailing list of
more than 300.

bZDjnly4shg8DGypFgVQxyGcLImhSYw%3D&reserved=0> www.thekingscandlesticks.com
is the website I chose the family candlesticks as a focal point of the
website.

To enable an intuitive website I used Xara Web Designer Premium which after
a bit of head scratching I learned, it is very simple in reality

To the Home page I linked the various exports from Legacy, plus the other
data under the black & white buttons. The picture slider was also a Xara
feature.

If a researcher around the world Googles the name of a person as on the
site, it will usually show within the first 3 hits ( Smith & Brown excepted)

I am getting due to rework the site a bit, for example in the last 3 yrs I
have been putting up images with what needs to be written about them under
"Events", which I have relabelled "Other Records" scroll down on my 3xGt
Grandmother Harriet Harrold and you will see what I mean

This means all data now is recorded under a RIN file as far as possible and
I will be able to remove the Documents button and reduce the photos section.

I use DOMAINZ a NZ company but now based in Melbourne for my hosting and
while there were a few rocky moments in the past they have settled down to
become a reliable provider, you pay but it is a pittance to keep you and
your website as safe as possible, domain names are also registered through
them.

As I see recommended I also use FileZilla as the interface between your PC
and your website.

My family is a large one at first, I was receiving 4 or 5 new emails a day
on <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected]
this has now reduced to a week, but there is continual communication with
existing Contributors adding data and swapping ideas.

I retired in 1995 and set about compiling the Tree putting up the website
has been a most fulfilling experience. My wife put up her website last year
<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theloc
kedjournal.com&data=02%7C01%7C%7C34c8c39748b34f6b7c7108d5549bac16%7C84df9e7f

CiqV79IBvvR1AU3CuSfW9XUIHB4%3D&reserved=0> www.thelockedjournal.com

with a great response, we did not seek to reinvent a success story.

Finally I did not want to entrust my work for a lot of reasons to Cloud
sites.

Please do not hesitate to ask me more, I am in Auckland

Cheers

Edward Fenn

Subject: [LegacyUG] Family tree on the Internet

Dear Legacy Users,

My name is Henk Bastiaanse and I live in Australia. I have been using
various genealogy software programs over the past 11 years and am using
Legacy for about 2 years. I am extremely happy with Legacy (9.0). However,
the time has come to share all collected information with extended family
and post the family tree - containing over 20,000 people and over a thousand
pictures and person- and location information - on the Internet.

What would be your suggestion how to do this and to which site to post it
to? I would really like to keep and share all collected information,
including the information in "Stories" etc.

Thanking you in advance for any feedback,

Kind Regards,

Henk Bastiaanse.
