Assigning an event to others is sharing an event.

You seem to think you have no control over the sentences used in a shared event but that's not true. You can edit those sentences as well. You just have to dig a little deeper to find the add/edit roles. It's probably easier from the Master List.
View - Master Lists - Event Definition
See the Tab headed Roles for those Sharing this Event.

You can add roles and/or Edit the highlighted role. That shows you the current sentences which can all be edited.

That said, I don't use shared events for census events.

I will put in a suggestion for copying an event and then assigning it to others.

*Subject:* [LegacyUG] Copy an event
I would like to enter an event and be able to add that EXACT event to other people say for a census with 8 people in the household.
Take an event like:
Residence
22 Broadway
4 Apr 1920
New York City, New York County, New York, USA
Attach exactly to: father, mother, daughters, sons, grandchildren, grandmother, etc. with the same modified event sentence. Current, I copy the event and go to each person’s page and enter it separately. Even if I could copy the event and then select a list for it to attach to, it would save time. I have looked at shared events but they change my sentences and put in extraneous items I don’t want. I tried to make it work for me but couldn’t.

Kathy and all,

Please add your comments to those of other people. I will not use their web site without a horizontal pedigree view.

And if you have an e-mail or other address or phone number for their management, please contact them directly! And mention that they could use the same software? as Legacy which they now own?

I agree - - I seldom use My Heritage because of that crazy chart!
