Hi Sheila

I have just upgraded from 9.0.0.265 to 9.0.0.269 with no problems. Regarding your issue :

1. Did you the update from Legacy, either manually or did it prompt.
2. The Normal process is to download the update file, which is the complete package. Then close Legacy and run the normally Windows installation process and finally reload Legacy. 3. Watching the installation, it skipped most of the files so it is clearly checking if the current files are the same as the upgrade versions. Mostly, it installed the Legacy and Charting programs and some of the configuration files.
4. How far down that path did your install run.
5. When you mean 'the screen just went blank' do you refer to the entire Windows desktop and active programs, or just to a blank display within Legacy? 6. If it was the entire Windows desktop I would be concerned about a virus issue. 7. If it is just within Legacy, I would expect it to be a problem with some of the .usr configuration files. The usual fix for those is to download the latest version and re-install it. Before doing that, I would locate the current .usr files - they are in C:\Users\....\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\Usr. I would move or rename the current set of legacy?.usr so that you have a copy. I would also locate your data files - usually in E:\Users\Chris\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\Data unless you have put them somewhere else - and copy those, so that you have a backup and include the media records as well. 8. Firstly, I would move the legacy?.usr files and then start Legacy. It should then rebuild them and run. 9. Next, I would move the other .usr files and again let Legacy rebuild them. Move of these relate fairly obviously to different parts of the program and a lot of them will contain configuration settings, which might be non-compatible. 10. If that does not work, I would download the install from their website https://legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadLegacy.asp, save the file (in case you need to run it again) and then install it. 11. If that does not work, I would use Windows to uninstall it, clear out the files and folder of C:\Users\....\Documents\Legacy Family Tree and C:\Program Files (x86)\Legacy9 - note that the (x86) is applicable if you are running on a 64bit version. Then do a totally clean version - HAVING ensured that you do have backups of your data, media and configuration files. You can then move the data and media files back, and make any configuration change that you want. 12. You could, if want the hassle and time, copy back the old configuration files, one by one, until you find the one that breaks the program.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Chris

Subject: updating to latest version

Just tried to update to latest version of 9 and when it finished the screen just went blank. I tried to reopen and it wouldn't open. Then I rebooted the machine and this didn't work either, to open the program. Do I now, need to download the whole program again and reinstall? I have the deluxe version of 9. Thanks for any help!
Sheila
