This is not the first time this opinion has been shared. I have been told this over and over. For those of us that truly love(ed) this program and have been with them for awhile, LOATHE the idea of it being changed into some sort of monstrosity. We that complain the most remember the good old days of Legacy, when it truly did what it was supposed to do when you wanted it to.
I get the sense that there’s more at play here than what meets the eye. I can also sense the frustration on the other side of the aisle, there’s more going on than what we see. Even the tone of those helping has changed. I think what we are seeing is the evolution of a hybrid that no one saw coming, and now that it’s here, no one knows how to contain it. “let’s take the best from this, add the best from that, mix in a little of this over here, now look what we have”. I could be completely off base here, but when you’re told over an extended period of time, “this is in progress, or this is due to be fixed” and then leave it open ended like that… if the communication is this bad out here, imagine what it must be like behind the doors we are not allowed into. If you yell at a child long enough, you lose your audience, they will either turn away, turn the channel or leave the room. There are better ways to handle it. One is strongly tempted to suggest that those who are complaining about the system would be happier elsewhere, or perhaps they should go off and make their own programme. What Legacy and Millennia should be building is a single forum styled system - HTML web based system to replace the current systems of a 1990s style email mail list and a group within Facebook which cannot easily deal with linked posts. This is the way that virtually all other systems use; look at forums used by game developers, vehicle owner groups etc. There is freely available software to provide these systems, which can be developed to provide more functionality. These systems enable you to create multiple sub-forums within which your users can create posts, to include text and embedded files and images. Against those posts other users can create additional posts. Management of users is easy to ensure that only registered users can make or read posts; that some sub-forums or posts can be read-only to anyone; some can be limited to developers and testers etc.. And the existing mail and FB lists can be merged into the new system.
