At the risk of buying into an argument, I don't think any of us are saying
we DON'T record our sources - but some people prefer to trust the work of
others, always remaining aware of the pitfalls of doing so, and that if we
receive research from other people THAT is the source of that particular
information, and that is what we record. If I receive information from a
fellow researcher I acknowledge that, then in the future, if anyone needs to
query the information they can either check up with the original
researcher - or seek proof themselves. And for my other sources I record
sufficient detail for me to know where I got the information, but I don't
get bogged down in / pull my hair out over the "correct" (according to
someone) way of doing it. My search for my roots is a hobby, I am not a
professional genealogist, the results are for me and my immediate family if
they are interested, and for others researching the same line if they want
it. They are quite free to query my details if they like - and go away and
prove me wrong if that is the case. it is quite possible that when I die
no-one will be sufficiently interested to pursue the research any further.
I hope it doesn't get thrown away, and I don't believe it would be - but if
it is, then I have no control over that.
And yes, I have already discovered the remarkable usefulness of the source
clipboard.
Cheers,
Jan
