I enter occupations as an event which is tied to a date and place. That way
I can record as many occupations for a person as apply. For example, the
1870 and 1880 US censuses of Kansas show my great-granfather as a farmer. An
1892 city directory shows he was a stone mason while living in Colorado and
the 1900 census show him to be a minister in Salem, Oregon.

Legacy does not have a specific field designated for occupation The problem
of entering occupations into fields not meant for them will cause problems
for others if you export a GEDCOM file to them. I have a relative who put
occupations in the USER ID field in Legacy and it was a mess moving them all
one by one into events or notes.

>Well, 50 characters ain't much when it comes to someone's life. I'm not yet
50 and I have been: stevedore .... and machinist. These are in no
particular
order. Which ones are you going to pick?
