No argument intended, just some thoughts on sources for consideration.....

The source of the Mississippi River is Lake Itasca in MN; that's the source 
whether you have seen it or not. But, it seems to me that YOUR source for 
data (in the example you used) would be the FHL film, and the FHL film 
source would be the particular document. If you did not see the document, 
how could it be your source when it is your source's source?

Another example - if I give you MY data with MY sources, I am YOUR source; 
my sources are not your sources until you have viewed them yourself.
