As Lloyd has suggested, focus groups are the key! They are very flexible and powerful. I've set up and saved four focus groups, one for each of my grandparents and their ancestors (see View > Focus Groups). I can then select the focus groups for some reports directly (eg Family, and Individual, from the Record Selection... dialogue). This only applies to reports which work on a selection of individuals, not those based on a single individual. I can use the focus group to select records for export if this is required. Generally no need to export if all you want is a report, though.

Export to a new Legacy file. Choose a focus group for export. Start with any person you wish and choose their descendants or ancestors. Then you can make any report that you want.
