Rich wrote <For important files, I scan and transcribe both, the entire
document, as
a source (in the Text). Then on each citation, I will put a small quote in
the detail area of the source.
Here is an example of a will I have. For one son, this is the detail. '2nd.
I give devise and bequeath to my son
Martin Stafford Eaton all of my real estate forever.' As for numbering the
pages, in your transcript you assign
the numbers. If you send to someone else, they can renumber as desired.>

That works well if you don't have a Civil War Pension Record of 86 pages.
My source would be longer than my document and would contain information of
little interest. My comments were about a source that is too long to copy
and with the thought that I won't be around forever or will be too feeble to
forward things to people directly. If I post my tree on the web or if
someone uses a collection of family group sheets long after I'm gone, the
source would be useful.

I like your method, Rich, of entering excerpts from the page or even the
full page, that contains the information that provides the documentation for
a particular event, in the different detail screens that are attached to the
Master Source. And if the Civil War Pension Record of reasonable length,
then entering it all into the Master Source would also work.
