Hi Cathy,
This sounds like you had "Re-use Abandoned RIN's" checked. That will fill in the gaps, but I thought only with new additions. Maybe you didn't have "Try to keep original ID numbers (RIN's)" selected. Otherwise, it sounds like a bug to me.

I'm interested, because I (and others) depend on reasonably stable MRIN's for filing.

Thanks for your comments.

Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob,

If you have to export your Legacy File to a new file (as recommended when dealing with some errors) you can have some (not the majority or all) RINS and MRINs change. I know because it happened. At some stage I'd filled User ID with RINs and now the User ID and the RIN don't always match.
I would think this was because I had a few holes from deleted people and marriages. Perhaps I missed ticking or unticking a box in the export process - I was really concentrating on getting rid of the error :-)
I don't delete very often but if you did this would be a bigger issue if you deleted a lot and were relying on MRIN or RIN for filing.

Cheers,
Cathy

Hi Laurence and Susan,

I'm puzzled by the comments that MRINs and RINs can change without you initiating it. I accept that it is easy for this to occur inadvertently through checking the wrong option by mistake. However, I'd use backups to manage this. As I'm pretty dependent on stable MRINs and RINs, I'd be interested in others' comments on the circumstances under which they will change. Just exporting Legacy to a new file does not cause the RINs and MRINs to change.

Cheers,
Rob
