Hi Mike,
Welcome to the Legacy List.
In Legacy you can separately source the link to Father and the link to Mother and give those sources a surety level. However you can't do visibly quite what you want.
What I do is to add a word in brackets to the Given Name. Then it is obvious on screen and in reports that I'm not sure of this link. In fact I would normally not share this link until I was sure and begin reports at the next generation.
I have things like Peter (probable) Houstoun and James (guess) Craig. Probable as he was a witness at children's baptism and the family had kept a death card for him. Guess because this is the only Craig with a James born on the right date in the Scottish OPR - not a strong basis but worth checking out to find the next generation back.
You could perhaps use the Descendant or Ancestor Interest for this purpose. They only show on the Individual Screen though so may not be visible enough for you. They have the advantage that you can search for them which you may find useful for research purposes.
From the Help File:
Ancestor and Descendant Interest
The two fields in the bottom right corner of the Information window are used to express your interest level in the ancestors and descendants of the current individual. The value can range from 0 to 3. 0 indicates no interest. Use 1 for Low interest, 2 for Medium and 3 for high interest.
These values can be used in the search section to compile lists of those people with whom you have an interest.
Re colours of tags. It's just the colour of the tag square. If you have the Deluxe version you have 9 tags but, on the Family View, can only show three at a time. Colour coding them can help show which ones are showing or what they represent, if you respond quicker to colour than to number.
Cheers, Cathy

I just joined this list after hearing about it on soc.genealogy.computing -- someone suggested that I post my question here. I'm a fairly new user; I've been using Legacy since earlier this year.
Here's my question: I'd like to do is find a way to flag the confidence of a link between two individuals, preferably in a visual way. I can use tagging (which I've just discovered) to mark individuals that I feel research is complete on, but what I really want to do is mark the level of confidence of their link to other individuals, which I don't see how to do with tagging.
Here's an example. I have a James Hermiston, b. about 1849 in Scotland; I am completely confident about his links to his wife and children. His father, from James' marriage certificate, is Robert Hermiston. The IGI shows a James Hermiston christened 28 Feb 1849 in Sprouston, Roxburgh, born to Robert Hermiston and Elizabeth Pringle. I can find no other James Hermistons born in this time period with a father named Robert.
This is quite possibly the same Robert, but obviously I have more work to do to be sure. What I currently do is put Robert and Elizabeth into the tree, and enter a research note giving my confidence in the link -- in this case, about 25% -- and commenting on the next steps. What I really would like to do next is find a way to mark the link of James to Robert as 100% (after all, I know that Robert Hermiston is the right name); and mark the links between Robert and Elizabeth and James and Elizabeth as 25%. Actually, I don't care about the numbers; colours would do just as well -- green, yellow and red, for example. I'd use green for 100%, red for below 50%, and yellow in between.
The value of this is that when I look in pedigree view, I have a quick way of identifying weak links, which is where I'd like to focus my research.
From the comments on s.g.c, I assume Legacy has no such feature. If there's another way to achieve the same goal, I'd be very interested to hear about it.
Finally, a related question. Is there a way to have individuals with a given tag show up in a given colour in either the family or pedigree view? I found the tag colour section of the colour tab under options-->customize, but I can't figure out what it does.
Thanks, and sorry to post such a long question first time.
