I saw the first posting of this but was supposed to be doing something else.
Like you, I find this behaviour of the cursor very annoying - and like you I'm not sure whether I've ended up sourcing the wrong field sometimes.
Since we are trying to follow good practice and source all data entered - and since it is logical to enter the data before the source (and if you try to add the source first, you get a Do you really want to add the source to an empty field message) it would be great if the cursor could stay put. I don't think there is an option to change this behaviour currently - but if there is, could someone please share it?

And while we are at it, I reported quite a long time ago that repeating information in any of these fields by clicking on the "hot spot" automatically moves the cursor into the next field. So if you then add a source, expecting it to be added to the (say) birth data you will find yourself inadvertently adding the source to the christening field. It is a pain to use the 'repeat' shortcut, only to have to remember to check that the cursor is still in the right field (it wont be) then move it back to the correct place before you add the source. Worse still, it is a pain not having realised that the source has been added to the wrong field until AFTER it has been added. And I still don't know how many times I haven't noticed so that the source is forever linked to the wrong field. I seem to recall that I found this out when I tried to add a source and the cursor had jumped to a field that couldn't have a source attached - but I can't make that happen now. I thought it was when I was adding burial information and the cursor jumps to User ID. I do notice that in that instance now the source will jump to Unspecified, so perhaps that has been a change in behaviour since I first noticed the glitch. <snip> Cheers Jan
