Problem: Legacy is my main genealogy program but I use another program for certain benefits. I switched from program to program with GED (I don't anymore!). Legacy includes the desirable ability to Source Names and the other program does not. The other program converts name sources to "Unspecified", thus all my Legacy name sources were deleted when I GED'd back. I have edited Legacy for hundreds of records and deleted the source for "Unspecified" and added the source for Name. But I have thousands more records to edit - I am only as far as the letter "C" at the moment.
Question: Going through every record and tagging occurs to me but I'm looking for a simpler method. Is there a simple, quick way to globally eliminate the source entry for "unspecified" wherever it occurs? I would still need to re-source the names but global elimination would cut the problem in half. Why two programs?: 1. The other program has a function to globally check all events/facts which do not have a source - need I add that sourcing is important. 2. The other program's reports were improved based on some of my recommendations and I am loyal. 3. I prefer to import a new GED into a completely different program for review. I don't want Legacy clobbered with extraneous data no matter how well it handles it. 4. The other program prepares reports faster. Observation: This is a good lesson to be learned by anyone who puts absolute faith in the ability of a GED to be absolutely precise when moving from program to program.
