Steve, thanks for the feedback. I'll run some tests with Legacy if nobody else
has tried it yet.

I'm currently using PAF with no mods to do just this with two different
flashdrives (256 & 128). It will leave submitter info behind if the computer
allows registry mods. That is one of the things I am hoping to avoid in
starting to explore use of Legacy.

Legacy, by default, installs some files in the Windows systems folders.

Robert,

My desired use is for locations I already know I can work with a USB
connection. The home/work scenario location is as important as anything else.
Many companies now prohibit program installation but many will allow temporary
media.

In library research if I can't attach to obtain electronic files I will save to
whatever media is allowed or email and then port the records. I know exactly
what you mean regarding libraries, and yet on my last research trip I found
some that did allow downloads.

My PDA is too old and slow, and will probably opt for small notebook if I end
up becoming a road warrior again.

Thanks,
dc

I can answer part of that question, but I am going to break it up.

Not to say there are no libraries that will allow you to use your own
pen/flash drives, but they are sparse, almost unheard of.

You didn't say if you have a PDA. Why nnot consider Pocket Genealogist?
