Hi,

Thanks for letting me know of this feature, I found it very easy and useful!
Though maybe because of my rather broad search I got lots of results ;) Is
there a way to edit the results in Legacy by deleting the "matches" which I
don't need?

Hi Mary,

There is a separate file stored in the folder your .FDB file is located in
with the extension of .IGI and is called the same as your .FDB file. For
example: MyGenealogy.FDB would have a MyGenealogy.IGI file which stores the
results of the IGI search.

This file size depends greatly on the type of search you do (limits), how
many people you have in your database, and how many results per person. As
an example: In the IGI search Options, you have a setting called "Stop
searching for an individual when the count reaches:" The default for this
is 5000. I set mine to 50 and I have 30,680 individuals in my database.
When I started my search, I let it run for 2 weeks 24 hours a day. When it
was complete, I had some results with 0 hits and some with 50 and every
number in between. My .IGI file was just over 550 MB in size. If I had
left the default search results to 5000 this could have been many GB in
size.

NOTE: All of the following features talked about below are under the IGI
search utility.

One thing you could do to limit this is to mark all in your file that are
missing ordinances with a specific tag number and do a filtered search.
(This is available in the IGI search utility.)

After completing the search and importing dates, I mark the people who are
completely done with a #3 tag, the living individuals with #4 tag, and those
who I couldn't find all of the ordinance dates for with a #2 tag. I then
clear each of these tag numbers. I then copy the .IGI file to another
location on my drive, rename it to .MDB and then open it in Access 2003.
Once I do this, I compact the database which reduces the size of the file.
My file is currently 249 MB.

I hope this helps.

BTW: I use a 1GB memory drive for my genealogy & images. My .FDB file is
35MB and I had plenty of room on the drive for the .IGI file.
