I am disappointed in the search results of persons in my database who are missing first or last names, but have other relevant data such as birth or death dates and spouse names. For some reason, the IGI search results only matches people with the same unknown first or last names. I would think it would be much more helpful to finally identify someone who matched all the vital data and YES! has a last name at last!
Is this limitation the nature of the IGI database? Or is it something that can be improved by Legacy? Or is this limitation due to my use of the characters [---?---] to represent unknown names? Should I replace these characters with some sort of wildcard prior to performing a search of the IGI database using Legacy? On a related issue, why in 1% of the searches I performed, did Legacy IGI Search list people whose names were not a Soundex equivalent to the person who was being searched? Is it because they have an AKA without a last name, simply a different first name? (That would be my database mistake.) Thank you for any insight. These are truly the names I'd love to find - even if they are just "clues"!
