That's the explanation - the use of spaces and one tab (use CRTL+Tab if you are typing within Legacy) in the name column and other uneven columns seems important. Two tabs together show differently on screen and printer.
I emailed off list so I could sent attachments or embedded pictures showing that I had succeeded. I have a Multiple Line of Descent book of over 400 pages with many census events in it. Most are beautifully lined up. The ones I adjusted first as I was learning that multiple tabs don't work so well are a little wonky but not bad.
This is with default fonts on both screen and report.
Cheers, Cathy

I wanted to do exactly what John wants to do for a long time. I've given up. There has been lots of discussion about this but as far as I've heard no solution other than mono spaced fonts, but I could have just missed it. Maybe I missed it because the solution is always revealed off-list!
Can't you explain it Cathy on the list because you have to send attachments? Or is there some other reason? It seems that if there is a solution to a question on a thread the solution should be revealed on the thread.
Or is the complete solution, > Either cut and paste the text complete with tabs and the tabs stick OR use > CTRL-tab.
Or is there more?
