I am not a computer guru, but I am a genealogist and have been researching since I was about 10- since back in the days of paper and pencil- 35 years ago. I LOVE my pocket genealogist, THANK YOU so much for writing it. Recently when I was at the family history library in SLC, taking a lunch break in the break room, I was looking over my database and deciding what to spend the afternoon doing, since my morning research had taken far less time then I anticipated. Someone walked by and asked about my pocket PC and the genealogy program. I explained it to her, and showed her some features- next thing I knew there was a small group around me, wanting to know about it! When people see it in action it is much more impressive than using other things like a usb drive (sometimes you have to wait for a computer to use it in at the FHL). Each kind of technology has it's place, and different things appeal to different people. I have used a laptop, but it is more of a challenge to keep it secure in a library (plus it is more cumbersome to carry around- but it is easier to enter notes and things into). My pocket pc is small and goes with me anywhere. While I can type in notes- or even write them in (with software), I don't usually do that. And of course I can look at any research in my database. I bring my pocket pc when I am using it as a reference aid--- when I find myself wondering "could this be my family?". I usually take notes on paper still, or make photocopies, then bring it all home and transcribe it. When I have been out of town for a few days, I put my notes right into my pocket pc and then sync it with my desktop upon arriving home- before adding anything else to the desktop database.
I think the Pocket genealogist is well written, and easy to use. I have only been slightly puzzled over how to do something, then quickly figure it out. I especially love how easy it is to sync up the data bases- but I do agree that it would be a nice feature to be able to sync it from within Legacy. Thanks for writing this program!!! (but I am sorry to hear you don't have time at the moment to do your own research :-) Susan I originally wrote Pocket Genealogist for my own use, ironically I have no time anymore to do research since I'm supporting/developing the product. It is REALLY nice to have all your data with you in something that fits in your pocket!
