Before, After and About dates are most likely to transfer by GEDCOM. Between dates are sometimes a problem as well as being harder to read in Pocket Genealogist which I've used since 2001. Sometimes Guess is entered as a location for an estimated date with no source. Regional mailing list participants usually post Outlines without sources.

Circa is not used in everyday conversation by my relatives so I wouldn't use it in a family book.

Data may be lost completely if "non-standard" words are entered in date fields. About Feb 18xx is the way I usually enter dates for UK first quarter registrations.

Two GEDCOMs came to me with the word Living in the death date field and place of residence in the death location. That meant all the living people appeared to be dead when a chart was printed and their information would have been included on a web page. -- Elizabeth

I supply estimated birth dates too and it does help to keep data in
perspective. One thing I get hung up on is when to use "circa",
estimated", "about", etc. Legacy defaults to Est and Abt but to me
those terms mean different things. I use About when I don't have a
clue and not much surrounding evidence, Est when I have dates for
siblings, parents marriage, etc. I used to Circa with another program
when the only evidence I had was court event records, dates for
associates, etc but with Legacy I use Abt for Circa. Is there any
official usage for all these similar words?
