The easiest way is to mirror your folder structure exactly the same on his computer. The way I do this is to NOT use My Documents for anything, but to create my own folder structure on my computer as follows:
\Genealogy\ (This is where the database resides with all residual files) \Genealogy\Docs\ \Genealogy\Histories\ \Genealogy\Books\ \Genealogy\Images\ (This is where my images reside in sub folders as follows) \Genealogy\Images\"paternal line" (Replace the following "paternal line" with your paternal line surname) \Genealogy\Images\"maternal line" (same as above) If you are copying from Drive C:\ to another computer's C:\ drive, you will not need to do anything else. If you are placing your files on another drive then you use, you will need to change the paths. This is easy to resolve. Go into Options / Customize / Locations and click on "View current list of Multimedia Locations..." This will show you the paths of each folder your images are in. Select either Change or Edit and select where your images are. Do this for each folder you have. (This is why I limit my folder structure to the above. If you have a folder for every person in your database, you will have hundreds or thousands of entries in the folder list to Add / Edit. When using my method, you just have to change a couple of entries and all images are once again viewable. I keep all my files on my memory drive (and I back up to my hard drive - I don't copy my files from computer to computer. Less chance for error.) which for the most part is Drive E:\ When I use my memory drive on another computer it might be Drive G:\ or H:\ etc... Now, to keep from duplicating image names I use the following method. Last-First-YOB.jpg (Last name - First name - Year of Birth . extension) Some examples Smith-John-1866.jpg (main picture) Smith-John-1866a.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866a1.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866a2.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866a3.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866a4.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866b.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866b1.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866b2.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866b3.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866b4.jpg (other images) Smith-John-1866bc.jpg (birth certificate) Smith-John-1866cen1880.jpg (1880 Census) Smith-John-1866cen1900.jpg (1900 Census) Smith-John-1866ml.jpg (marriage license) Smith-John-1866mc.jpg (marriage certificate) If you have another John Smith born in 1866 and you know for a fact these 2 are not the same, you would use a middle initial for one of the 2, the month of birth or another method. Smith-JohnM-1866.jpg Smith-JohnC-1866.jpg Smith-John-Jan1866.jpg Smith-John-Sep1866.jpg With this method, I have not had any duplications. I have close to 37,000 people in my database and don't have any family members with the same first and last name born in the same year. If I ever do, I have the above work around for this. These methods work for me, but might not work for you in your situation. Hope this helps. Last weekend I traveled 200 miles to my dad's place. Took a multimedia back-up of my Legacy files and no pictures appeared when I loaded the cd on his computer with Legacy installed. Last time this happened I asked for help from the users group and was told to back-up multimedia files and load them on his computer and all would work fine. The text files appear fine but again no pictures--just question marks where the pictures should be. Please tell me how to let my dad see the pictures I've got linked to the people in Legacy as I am visiting again next weekend. Thanks for your help.
