I have never had to "install new hardaware".  I actually have two flash
drives and they both operate as plug  'n play.  I plug them in and go.

I've not seen that, but one thing I find annoying is that whenever I plug my

flash drive in I have to go through an "Instal new hardware" routine. It's 
supposed to be plug and play, and so closing all those little pop up windows

is annoying, as well as all those "This device can run faster" ones, which 
don't seem to actually tell you how to make it run faster.
