I believe the TMG does allow you to choose between Mills' sourcing
techniques and those advocated by Lackey in "Cite Your Sources". Haven't
used TMG, though, so don't know how it works in practice. The learning
curve is just too high for me.

I too have a copy of Ms Mills' book.
It's a good book, but IMO not a great one for exactly the reason you
state. Legacy has the best sourcing capability of any Genie program
I've used. It's certainly much better than FTM's, but I don't know about
TMG. The problem with Shown-Mills' book is that it doesn't relate to
the reality of doing Genealogy with a computer program.

She defines her ideal, but doesn't say how to achieve it with any program.
I don't think any program could do it her way. Not unless the program's
developers decided to make that a goal of their reporting functions.
Maybe TMG is compliant with her standards. I don't think FTM is.
Obviously Legacy doesn't as you've learned the hard way.
So you have two choices twist your sources all around to comply
with one woman's opinion of what's "right" or do it in a way that
is natural for the program. I go with the way the program wants to
work. Saves me stressing about stuff that IMO really isn't that important.
