When asked for the source that claims that Ms. Mills' "Evidence!..." book is the standard for citing sources Stan wrote:
> It's the recommended standard for articles for the National Genealogy > Society Quarterly; see their Guidelines for Writers at > http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/pubsqguide.cfm. I went to the site and this is what I found: "Citation style: All references and explanatory footnotes should follow Mills, Evidence! Citation and Analysis for the Family Historian, or current issues of the NGS Quarterly." This isn't much of a standard if you ask me, because: 1) It's only what one magazine says things should look like. 2) It says "should" not "must" or we won't publish. 3) It says Either the Mills book or current issues of the NGS Quarterly. I hardly see anything from a recognized professional association that is a standard. In my view, there are no standards in doing genealogy. Genealogy can be done by an individual to whatever standards or lack of standards he or she wants. Apparently even the pros differ somewhat over exactly how evidence should be cited. jr Enter the drawing for a FREE Legacy Cruise to Alaska or a FREE research trip to Salt Lake's Family History Library.
