Dennis,
Are you concerned about the increase in program file size from 16.6 mb
Legacy 5 to 26 mb Legacy 6 or the fact that the current version requires a
more powerful computer than Legacy 5 when you say "Legacy is bloated
enough"? Legacy's web site mentions testing of International versions.

Legacy developers seem to be concentrating on Deluxe features to attract new
customers rather than fixing some of the output issues that are delaying
current projects for registered customers. The last public build 6.0.0.83
was Feb 28, the 11th download for Legacy 6 released September 8, 2005.

A simple all-descendants project can be planned with a "free" version of
Legacy Standard or an old version of Legacy Deluxe without any charts as
book items. Researchers of complex family groups with intermarriages *need*
built-in charts showing the most important individuals with selected details
as a visual custom report. I use box charts set to show individuals found in
each census 1851-1930

Add-on programs for trees are much less convenient. The current ones like
download-only Legacy TreeDraw for about $40 do not replace features that
researchers can use regularly in several $30 genealogy that include built-in
wall charts. Companion was included with FTM 2006 at the upgrade price but
the Companion charts do not have the options of FTM charts.

PAF-DOS used to have about two dozen utilities years ago and few of them
were updated to work with PAF 4. The expensive "book" program was updated
for "free download" PAF 4 but not PAF 5. Versions of Companion for Legacy
and other programs are limited because the main database must be closed
before using them. -- Elizabeth

That sounds like an argument for an add-on. Not everyone needs this feature,
and Legacy is bloated enough.
