The former. Although the latter is also a problem, it does not affect
me. I wonder if moving to the .NET framework will require OS upgrades?

I believe add-on programs are the way to go for features like certain
reports that not everyone needs. Book reports for example. Or an add-on
that produces web-pages. These kinds of tasks kind of stand on their own
... i.e. they don't update the db or interact with Legacy's primary
functions. I don't know enough about research guidance (since I don't
use it), but maybe that could have been a candidate for an add-on? Maybe
not.

As far as convenience is concerned, I don't have a problem with having
to open up a 2nd program to gain access to a feature that maybe I'll use
only once a day max. Including a feature in Legacy (such as research
guidance) may be a convenience for one person, but an inconvenience for
another (i.e. the person who doesn't use it but has to download the
extra 8 mb each time). Research guidance is an extreme example, and I am
sure there are ways to address this "inconvenience" short of making it
an add-on.

I was wondering if the Legacy developers have ever considered building
an interface that would allow 3rd party tools to be directly "plugged
in" to Legacy? Maybe similar to the way Paint Shop Pro allows "plugins"?
These 3rd party tools then would appear as menuitems within Legacy
(appropriately flagged as non-Legacy code) and pop-up as dialogs.
