Hi Dima,

We will work on garbage collection after the NXT functionality is in place (I2C
sensors, USB, Sound, Bluetooth, File System, Menus, etc.). I don't want to
change the VM too much until everything is working reliably on the NXT.

Have you used the alpha release successfully? I have seen a few hundred
downloads of it, but have not had much feedback yet on whether it works
reliably, on whether the API is OK, and whether it is easy enough to install
and run on Linux and Windows.

Everyone: please let us know whether you have used it successfully.

The extra RAM and flash memory on the NXT, combined with I2C and Bluetooth
communications capability give us the possibility to make the NXT version of
lejos vastly superior to the RCX version, but we need to get there step by
step.

Lawrie

Devs, what about garbage collector in NXT Lejos - any plans?

It would _really_ come in handy!

That Auto Factory video is amazing! I've never seen that before.

For the larger AI type of projects I've been using PC side with iCommand,
pretty much what Roger said. For video and mapping you really need a laptop
in the equation, both because of memory but also having a nice big color
  display to show a map.

We won't try to do a full Java Standard Edition API on the NXT because a lot
of that API is for things that don't exist on the NXT, like mouse input,
keyboard, big color display, etc... Instead we're probably going to have
something similar to the Java Mobile Information Device API, since the NXT
is pretty much a mobile device:
