In the unlikely event that 5 years from now someone wants to convert
old derived files, they can download Leo 4.4.x to do the conversion.
Also, the read code will tell people how to do the conversion if it
tries to read an ancient derived file.  I think this means that
retiring Leo 3.x can be done without gravely injuring anyone.
