Does cut text do the same? It seems like it would be useful to be able to call small scripts, I don't know a way to do that with nodes, I suppose there might be a way to do that by writing vim supporting commands, as you mention, but it seems like an extra step.
It might also be useful if the where a hook available for entering/ exiting a mode whose dictionary holds the modes to/from info. What is the behavior you get when you type a sequence that starts out as a valid command but ends with a keypress that is not legal?
