edit-headline switches from selected (grayed) state to edit mode. I disagree that grayed mode is not needed: editing should be a conscious option. In any case, it would be possible for any mode to enter editing using --> edit-headline Also, you can use --> end-edit-headline --> enter-destination-mode in an intermediate mode to end editing and go to a final destination mode. In other words, you can, in effect, use --> command to specify actions to be taken when *leaving* a mode. HTH.
