The short form is: there is lots of energy in the project for me now--not
because I'm ever going to use it, but for other reasons, somewhat difficult
to explain.

I'll take your words to heart.  After I've finished learning from the code I
may file it and forget it.  But for now, I *am* learning from the code.  For
example, the present nativeTreeWidget event handlers may turn out to be
largely widget-independent.
